Recommend BIN for starting point

My '88 305 car has been converted to a 350 of 1969/70 vintage. 76cc iron heads. The motor has been rebuilt and supposedly has a cam, but he doesn't have the cam card or know what it is (imagine that). I got a good deal on a Stealth Ram, so that's what I've got on top of the motor. Car has headers and exhaust.

The chip in the car currently is an AKFR (88 305 TPI Auto non VATS). I have read that ARAP is a good 350 BIN to start with, but will it be too aggressive for this non aluminum head motor that is in the car, not knowing what the cam is?

I would use the bin definition that you stated AKFR.

ARAR or ARAP will work fine on iron heads. If you are concerned with the sa go with AUJM.

Re: Recommend BIN for starting point

Not thinking, I only ordered 1 adapter from Moates. I have 2 TPI cars, the GTA is going to have to wait for its own.

Tonight I began toying with Tunerpro and my new Autoprom. I read until I felt semi-confident I knew what I was doing, installed and burned my first chip. It took me a few tries to understand how to load the buffer properly.

When I installed the chip into my ECM, the fuel pump would run constantly when the key was turned. I burned several more times with the same result. I started questioning my chip's orientation; I was burning it with the notch facing the ZIF handle, biased all the way to the bottom of the socket. The problem was I was placing it into the ZIF in the ECM the same way; it needs to be loaded with the notch facing AWAY from the ZIF handle in the ECM. Although I guess that could depend on the orientation of the ZIF socket.

Excuse my excitement, I'm thrilled to have successfully burned my first chip. I ended up trying APYM on my 305, switching to a $6E mask. I only made some minor changes; disabled AIR and EGR and took it for a 15 mile cruise on the highway. No Check Engine Light, and the car's idle RPM dropped about 250 with only changing the BIN! I'm very happy that I've begun to figure this out, and look forward to data logging and getting further into it.

I drove too and from work today with my new chip, and what a difference! The car idles and runs so much smoother. No more surging. The only problem that I notice at this point is it does not handle cold starts well. It wants to idle below 500 RPM and just dies, unless you give it a little bit of pedal for 20 seconds or so. Other than that I'm very pleased thus far.

Increase the IAC steps vs coolant temp. There is a table. On warm engine you should idle at 5-10 steps.
