Hardware Needed?
Hardware Needed?
I am looking for recommendations on current required hardware to read/erase/burn chips from a 7747 PCM. Most of what I have found here and on other sites reference older and hard to find stuff.
I'm still on the fence about installing a Moates G2 adapter and using 27FS512 chips. What I really want to be able to do is cheaply get my engine running well (20 to 50 burns?) then call it good and pass the equipment on to the next lucky person.
I "think" I need a (from Moates site) Burn 2, HDR1, ALDL cable, UV eraser, and software. Is that right? Other options of current equipment?
I know, wrong forum, but... I am even willing to buy used equipment or rent it maybe? Anyone?
Thanks,
Steve

You will have to use 27SF512 EEPROMs, or possibly 29C256 EPROMS, if you use the BURN2, it can not program the 2732(a) EPROMs. These EPROMS are read only with the BURN2.
To use the 27SF512 EEPROMs you will need a G2 adapter (or similar).

The HDR1 isn't likely required as the '7747 doesn't use a MEMCAL. Besides, there are a bunch of '7747 stock BIN available on the 'net to start with.
No need for the UV eraser as the 'sf512's are flash, not UV EPROM's.

Thank you Six_Shooter and RBob. That helps clear it up for me.
Are there still devices available to burn the factory chips? I read about the Pocket Programmer from Xtronics and some others. However, the posts were from 5+ years ago and I can't find the devices listed.

Steve, from a minimum, your require the G2 to accept the 'sf512 chips, then the Burn2 to program them. And an ALDL cable to data log.

You can still find pp1, and pp2 but they use a db25 serial. The PP3 is available from intronics.Or you can go with a Williams I think this is a knock off though.

Re: Hardware Needed?
I have a Willems GQ-3X, that I use for other E/EPROMs than what I use in automotive applications. It will also program the 2732 and similar EPROMs.
Re: Hardware Needed?
If you go the route of a WIllems at least you'll know they work and the big bonus is software is in English!
I saw a post of a guy who bought a cheap knock off from china and he had to learn chinese to use software...
