hey guys, im trying to check the tune on my car, i keep going through all sorts of tuner programs but i cant seem to figure out how to use any of these. finally just figured out how to access the com and lpt on my computer, although it still cannot find the aldl cable. any help would be awesomely appreciated

 

what have you tried and what errors are you having? (more specifically)

 

I started with the first three links in the sticky section, and also read every link within those links, then started with TunerProRT5 and a cable. Bought the Moates equipment, helped that I understood air/fuel/spark, just took forever learning all the values and what they do, still don't know em all but here I am a year later with a big smile every time I go for a ride or hit the auto cross course.

alright thanks guys. i have tried using winaldl, tunerpro, free scan, and scannerpro. i was having a problem at first because the com/lpt was non-existent on my laptop, but i eventually got it, although now it says theres an error with it. i got on my fiance's macbook and got tunerpro downloaded on it, but i have no idea how to work it. i plug the cable in, but i cant figure out how to select the proper port. someone told me after i bought the cable, that i shouldnt have gotten a usb aldl cable, but instead the one that looks like a monitor cable.
i'll see if i can sit down one night and read through all this to see if it helps me understand what i'm looking at a little better. thanks guys

 

that software won't work on a MAC, best to just delete it, on a windows box the USB is fine, 99.999% of new computers (if not 100%) do not come with a serial (9 pin) port. It is definitely not the 15 pin VGA port cable.

So plug the usb cable in, install the software, install the drivers from FTDI for the cable, plug the cable into the ALDL port on car, turn the car on, launch TunerPro, open the dashboard in Tunerpro, read all of the articles we have said to in here and you should be able to get going.

I'll be honest though, sounds like some more basic computer reading is in order before you try this, just my

Does not say which ALDL cable you bought but if it was moates equipment:

That should get you started at least to the point that the laptop will see the cable.
I had an issue with my 7165 ecm where it would not communicate with the cable at all. I tested it on another car which it did communicate with. Changed the ecm with a spare that I had and it finally worked.

 

My main problem is the com/lpt ports having errors on them. I consider myself slightly above average with computer skills but I have never used a scanner on a computer and it's very new territory to me. It isn't working as easily as plugging in the USB and then the aldl because it isn't picking up the aldl on the computer

 

Follow the steps in the link I sent. If you are not sure what port its on, go to the device manager and look under Serial Ports. You will see the cable listed with the comm its set on(as long as its installed with the correct dirver. May come up unknown). go back to tunerpro and select that comm.

 

If you have com port errors, you have a driver issue with the cable/adapter. As stated above, you need to load the drivers form FTDI. Also as stated above, not sure if this will all work on a Mac Book (maybe if you are running Windows mode?), not really sure though. You should really use a Windows computer as everything I have seen for tuning is Windows based. I could be wrong as I don't really look for drivers or software for Macs anyway. But definitely a driver problem for the cable/adapter. Hope this helps to get you pointed in the right direction!

I'm going to use my computer again and try this all again. I'll try and down load the driver again
