$6E cold start

so got a new chip with $6E. I eliminated my 9th injector. how long does it usually take for the car to start from a cold start. it was 17 degrees this morning and it took like 6 revolutions to start up. before I unplugged the 9th injector it only took 2 rotations in negative degree weather. mybe the chip I try to erase and burn over is a one time burn chip. im getting proper chips from moats today in the mail so im going to try to burn the new chips and install it and hopefully my cold start will be much better. its just weird that it started way better with the 9th injector.. after the car is warm she pops right off with no issue at all.

Re: $6E cold start

Not knowing which calibration you started with, check the crank fueling table vs DRPs. Many of them are set up to not fire the injectors until two full revolutions have been completed.

He’s using apym, iirc values were added to 1-3 crank fuel pw multiplier vs ref pulse.
I think it’s the nature of $6e to take a little longer to fire off. You could allways try to riches up the multiplier.

Re: $6E cold start

what is the reason people eliminate the 9th injector? its specifically for cold starts and this guy lives in a place that gets into the neg degrees.

The ninth injector is on a timer switch and iirc is momentary during cranking only.
The ninth injector can be a problem with age as well as the timer switch.
I think the crank pw multiplier is .250 for the lower drp. You can double this value and see if it helps or hurts cranking startup.
You can also change the afr % change vs coolant temp in ol. This would be for once the engine is running but it sounds like that’s not the op complaint.

I need to look up what I did with when I increased my $6E crank values, but I removed the CS injector from my 1987 GTA and installed the Hawk's block off part. No issues starting up in 15 degree temps last weekend.

Re: $6E cold start

she starts it just takes a bit, and by a bit its like 6+ rotations, unless she's already warm.. also she runs rich when cold. so I will need to lean it out. and I think my maf is going out because my car just through another code of 33. than I turned my car off and started it and the code went away.. its a wells su. 145. . . I keep getting these rebuilt mafs and they are just junk. cant seem to find a good maf out there that works properly.

Re: $6E cold start

I would try a touch more crank fuel pw vs coolant temp

GM eliminated the 9th injector with the release of the $6E mask in '89. It is no longer required as the calibration/code takes care of the cold cranking/running.
