Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

I have a decent tune on my 1990 bird (383, AFR 195, miniram, T56). I started with Ultm8Z's bin. I'm now working to smooth out the idle. I'd like to try and increase the idle speed, especially when it's warming up. I've read that the s_aujp definition has the idle set to 600 rpm. That's about where I'm idling. The coolant vs idle table doesn't seem to affect the idle at all. My IAC steps are very low and my TPS is at .58V. There must be some switch that I need to set.
Thanks.

I'm not aware of anything special that needs to be done... I'll take a look and see.

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

It depends on what operating temperature you're at. It is in fact 600 at 92C and above, but 625 at 80C and higher at colder temps.

Unless I'm missing something, when I look at the SAUJP bin, it seems to me that raising the value in that table should in fact raise the idle speed.

When you say your IAC steps are very low.... what's the actual value?

In Switch 18, bit 2 (in Tunerpro) is the box checked for manual transmission? SAUJP defaults to automatic transmission. Not sure if this would cause anything,

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

I'll have to check the table again, but I think I adjusted it to match by factory bin (5-speed). The idle is set much higher at the colder temperatures and then decreased as it warms up. When I start the car cold the idle is high for about 5 seconds and then drops right down to 600 rpm.
I just logged a drive and my IAC steps are at 0 when I'm at idle. It varies from 5 to 20 when I'm driving.
Yes, switch 18 is check for manual transmission.

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

My BIN has the target idle speed at 1000 rpm below 90F, then 800 rpm up to 176F and 750 rpm for all warmer temperatures.

maybe a bad IAC motor?

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

I think the IAC is fine because it shows steps (5 to 25) when I’m driving. I do have a spare one that is easy enough to swap in. I should also try my old bin and see if the idle follows the table like it use to.

IAC steps is a commanded position, not a reported position.

so that's interesting... the IAC may not be doing what the ECM is saying doing...

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

I loaded my old bin that started from my 305, 5-speed. The idle generally followed the idle vs coolant temperature table. IAC steps were about 100 at 1000 rpm and went down to 30 at 750 rpm.
So my IAC is functioning. There must be something in the "miniram start bin-SAUJP v5 52030" that needs to changed. My plan is to compare the two. Besides idle, the tuning in the miniram is much better. I can always copy everything over to my stock bin file.

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

I copied all my idle parameters from my ANTX (5-speed) bin to the SAUJP bin. This has no effect on the idle. The idle starts at 950 on cold start then goes into closed loop after about 35 seconds. Meanwhile the engine speed is slowly dropping. After another 8 seconds the IAC steps goes from 20 to 0 and the engine speed is at 550 rpm.
So I am still missing something.

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

I took my ANTX bin and copied most of the parameters from my SAUJP bin. I left out most of the idle parameters. On my test drive this morning everything seemed normal. My idle was back up and following the idle vs. coolant temperature table.
I did notice that the engine cranks a bit more before firing up both cold and hot. With the modified SAUJP I was using the engine fired up very quickly. I’ll have to look at some of the “crank” parameters and see if I copied them all.

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

yeah that's strange... I dont recall having any idle speed issues with SAUJP...

Re: Adjusting idle with s_aujp v5

For the longest time I was using the original 88 bin (edited) with $32b. My idle followed the idle vs coolant temp table (850rpm). Now I am running $6E with a modified ARAP bin. Car runs fantastic. But my idle in park is 1000rpm when it's set for 850. In gear it idles around 900rpm. The rpm adder when in park scalar is set to zero. Never could really figure out why this happens. I copied everything over from the old bin including the spark table.
