APYP BIN for modified L98, 5 speed (M39), 3.27 gear

UPDATED: 04-04-2023

Just posting this custom BIN, APYP, for L98, 5 speed (M39), 3.27 gear. It's a very good start for anyone with similar set-up

Car is:

Firebird ’87 GTA
’7165 ecm $6E
A/C, cruise control
L98, 5.7 (bored .020)

Edelbrock 3890 TPI Intake
OEM Plenum, ported
Flo-Tek Aluminum180CC heads
Scorpion 1.6 Rockers;
Lingenfelter 74211 CAM

BBK 52MM TB
SLP CAI

Bosch M-9593-BB302 30# @ 39.15psi
AFPR
OEM HEI distributor, ecm controlled
MSD Cap & Coil
EGR block off

Edelbrock TES Headers 1 5/8" primary, 3" single exhaust
Initial timing was set at 8*
A heated O2 sensor installed.
Fuel pressure set at 43.5psi.

T5 WC swap (0.62 overdrive)
Stock BW 9 bolt, 3.27 gear
AIRS, Catalytic Converter, CCP, PCV in place

OEM fans and radiator

Tuning was accomplished at average of 250 feet above sea level, air temperature ~50 to 60°F and 91 octane ethanol free gasoline. Keep in mind that 93 octane is not readily available in Canada and 91 octane quality is questionable (creates more knock). Battery voltage was normal and engine temperature was controlled at around 185°F while cruising.

TunerPro RT V5.0 was used along with an AEM AFR gauge with sensor in Y-Pipe monitoring both engine banks.

For tuning, ALDL Spark Adder was zeroed out, A.I.R.S. was put on full time divert and knock test was disabled. All were enable after, except ALDL Spark Adder.

Some of the BIN features
  • VATS disabled
  • ALDL Spark Adder zeroed out
  • EGR disabled
  • SAM disabled
  • HWY mode disabled (AFR & SA)
  • Fan set at 188Deg.F
  • Cold SA disabled
  • PE SA zeroed out
  • WOT max SA set at 32* at 4800rpm (conservative)
  • Main SA table set based on new LV8 profile and Cold SA disabled
  • MAF tables retuned
  • BLM boundaries enhanced to reflect new LV8 profile
  • OL completely retuned for better warm-up and idle (using heated O2 sensor)
  • RPM limiter enabled
  • Crank fueling adjusted for modified engine and bigger injectors
  • SA Latency tables were corrected for accuracy after testing.
  • Injector Offset vs Low Base PW table zeroed out
  • Injector PW Voltage Compensation table tuned using Bosch M-9593-BB302 30# datasheet
  • PE AFR set to obtain average 12.5:1 AFR at WOT
  • Idle set between 750-1200rpm depending on CT
  • BIN can report WB, MAF voltage and TPS%
  • Use this ADX for better results: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...rehensive.html

BBK 52MM TB adjusting screw was set to minimum and IAC was still in very low digit a hot idle 750rpm.

This tune has not been tested on dyno for WOT SA/AFR optimization.

If you decide to use, please study it carefully using Tuner Pro. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Any differences with your set-up, specifically but not limited to: fuel pressure, injector flow rate, fuel octane, distributor type, initial timing and MAF type; could cause engine damage. Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Many thanks to @EDGE for his patience, not giving up despite all the adversity and going out there datalogging.
