Tuning out VATS with EBL/TunerPro

Hello,
My car is having intermittent starting issues.. backstory: I had my VATS keyed ignition switched over to a regular key and the locksmith put a resistor chip in the wiring.. It has started fine after that.. I do notice that sometimes I have to push my B&M shifter up and down to make sure the neutral switch is engaged to start, then it will start.. This last fall I got the Dynamic EFI installed and I know i now have the ability with that by bypass VATS.. Can someone help me out with the instructions on how to exactly do that???

Thanks,
Loren

Re: Tuning out VATS with EBL/TunerPro

The ECM is only part of the VATs system. There is an option flag to enable/disable the fuel cut in the ECM. The supplied BINs have it set to disabled.

If the engine won't crank due to VATs, that is between the VATs module and the starter enable relay.

RBob.

Ok, so then if the fuel pump is coming on and the starting is intermittent and the security light is on, that means the resistor the locksmith put is has either malfunctioned or came undone in the steering column then, correct?? So should I just buy the vats bypass module and install that in the place of the resistor??

Re: Tuning out VATS with EBL/TunerPro

Your VATS module is probably still there. All the resistor does is simulate the resistor chip in the key, and the VATS module senses that as correct resistance and then gives the engine ECM an okay signal to let the engine run (by enabling fuel injectors).

Software changes in the ECM are not changing what the VATS module does, it just changes whether the ECM cares if the VATS module approves/disapproves the start request.

This thread will help you better understand how VATS works and what it does & doesn't do, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...pass-vats.html

If you having trouble with the vats . The only thing left is starter enable relay. Connect the large gauge yellow to large gauge green with jumper wire or a butt connector or iirc can ground the passkey ground wire going to relay that’s located under the drivers side kick panel. In the ebl like rbob mentioned the flag is off.
after relay is bypassed you can pull the security bulb or look at curse box I think there’s a dedicated fuse.

awesome.. thats what i was thinking of having to do.. i replaced the vats key with a non vats ignition a couple years ago and the locksmith installed a resistor in the steering column. so what you are saying is that all i need to do is install this bypass wire and i will be all set??? that easy peezy???
