Axle/Gears: 3.08/ 3.23
Orange wire... +12v direct from the battery
Black.red stripe... 0v until the relay is energized, then +12v from battery
Green... controlled ground
Tan/White stripe... +12v switch from the fuse panel (hot only in run)
check the fuse, I think it says 'something(I forget) FAN' and is like 20A I believe.

Relay is on the pass side of the radiator supprt (dunno if that vaires over the years or not)

TBI cars don't have an ECM controlled fan and the fan kicks on at a frigid 238° (or as soon as you turn on the A/C)

Deadbird,

Okay, i'm having a similar problem, but i live here in sunny South Florida, and want my fan on the entire time my car is.

So in theory, if i leave only the green (controlled gound) and the tan/white stripe wire connected, it should power up whenever i turn on the car, hence when the fuse box powers up?

Let me know if this will work.

Thanks

If you take the green wire (only wire you have to fiddle with) & just ground it, then the fan will run with the key in the 'run' position (or while the car is running too).

its located b/w the 6 and 8 cylinder...you have to get it from under the car...i dont know how to get them to stay on all the time...its not good for the car on cold mornings to run too cold...

The relay will be on one side or the other of the radiator support (both, dual fans, were on the pass. side of my 'bird)
If you still can't find it (relay has wire colors listed above going to it), trace the black/red stripe wire from the fan to the relay.

The fan switch is in the pass. side cyl where DABE said.

1 (easiest) way to make it run with the ignition on,

Splice a wire into the green wire at the relay or at the fan switch & ground it.

Cold morning or not, the thermostat will assure (assuming it's working properly) the car reaches whatever temp it's supposed to, fan running or not. The only time this would be a problem is if you're running no thermostat or you have one that doesn't hold shut.

ok i traced the big black wire with the red stripe and it leads to the relay on the driver's side firewall, but there is NO ORANGE WIRE, or A TAN/WHITE WIRE there?

Do these wires only exsist at the switch next to the 6th and 8th Cyl?

Thanks

If there are no other wires on that relay that the fan is on, you've got a problem.

Your relay(s) should look similar, nowhere near exactly (I moved mine but kept the original wiring tho), like this.
