what could be the problem? broken cable, vss, or what? thanks for reply.

 

If it is a broken cable it should trigger the SES light and throw a code 24. On cable driven units the VSS sender is in the speedometer head. If you have an electronic speedo the VSS sender is at the transmission tailshaft area on the drivers side. Either system should throw a code if inoperable. Aside from a broken cable the drive gear is a very common problem.
