car alarm installation

Posted this on the previous website, but ran into a technical problem that i hope any one help.
bought an Audiovox AA-9347 car alarm. Features include light flasher, starter kill, 2 stage shock sensor, etc.
My question concerns the correct wires to cut and splice. Here's what the instructions say to do:
"..get access from to the wires coming from the ignition switch. Connect the RED wire from the relay (alarm) to the wire from the ignition switch that shows +12 volts on the logic probe when the key is switched to the "ON or RUN" and "START" positions, and shows 0 volts when the key is switched to the "OFF" position. I think that this wire is YELLOW (based on info from the wiringinstructions.com website.) There is a series of wires underneath the steering column; is the yellow wire in this group the one that I should use?
The next step in the instructions says:
"...Locate the wire coming from the ignition switch that shows +12 volts on the logic probe when the starter motor is cranking, and shows 0 volts when the key is switched "OFF","ACCESSORY", and "ON or RUN" positions. Cut this wire and attempt to crank to verify. What wire is this? What color is it? To this cut wire I have to splice in two separate wires from the alarm harness.
Now, onto the light flasher. I understand to connect one wire to the wire coming from one of the flashers. The next step says:
"...Connect both the RED wire from relay and WHITE w/ BLACK stripe wire from the relay to a +12 volt battery fused wire (minimum 15 Amps)...these wires can be connected to the + terminal at the battery, and must use in-line fuse (15 Amps)." Is the this the advised way to connect this? Or should I connect to the fuse block with an inline fuse?
Please be as specific as possible; I'm not that familiar with wiring and I don't want to screw up the electrical system. By the way I have an 87 Firebird, with power windows and no power locks. No accessory position in the ignition switch.
Thanks,
Kyle Donohue

Here is color code for our 3rd gens from the ign. switch: +12 volt is red, +12 v ignition is pink, starter is purple or white(depending upon year). To check for this, take a test light and probe the white wire and crank the engine. If the light comes on,that's the starter wire. If not then try the purple wire. Accessory is brown, parking light wire is brown from the light switch, door trigger is the white wire from one of the courtesy lights under the dash. As far as the power source goes, you can go directly to the battery or you can splice into the red wire from the ign harness.Either way, you must use the in-line fuse. Hope this helps.

wiggle your way though the guest mode and you can print out a complete wiring diagram for wiring an alarm in your car.

Re: car alarm installation

On hearing a car theft alarm go off..."A car is being stolen, quick call the police"! Says NO ONE , ever.
