any place to see or find out what amperage alternators were used with certain applications ? debating over keeping alternator on the 84 SE 2.8L or letting it go with car to scrapyard

Most GM alternators have some stamp indicating what current rating it has. If not just run the RPO info on this site. This info will be located in the console compartment. It is the complete build history of the vehicle.

 

yeah but the problem is that the stamping is not accurate after the alternator ahs been bought by a core rebuilder, they put in whatever guts they wish to. it could be a 78 amp in a 42 amp case, so....
just gonna let it go with car to shredder too.
