Door locks question-please answer
Door locks question-please answer
i have a 91 RS that i just purchased recently and sometimes when i start up my car a few seconds later it automatically locks. I have yet to find any consistency in when it does this, and am afraid one day i will go to warm up my car and lock myself out. Anybody have any clues as to why it does this, or if its normal when it is triggered?

You might have an aftermarket security system in there. I'm guessing that you didn't recieve any remotes for the alarm when you purchased the car. Most security systems can be programmed to lock the power locks after the car is put in the ignition position. You can check by getting under the dash and look for a wire harness that may be spliced into your ign harness that leads to a black box. And, since you didn't mention any prescence of a LED(blinking alarm light),it may be only an aftermarket keyless entry system,if there's anything in there at all.
thanks for the info...i actually did happen to get what appears to be an alarm remote with my keys however they dont seem to do anything...im thinking possibly the batteries need replacing...there is no blinking led light, and the guy before me said he only had the car for a few months and wasnt sure about the whole alarm thing...he said he had no clue if the alarm remote worked or what. thanks for the info though
Josh, read my other post about your security system. Many car alarms automatically lock the doors when you turn on the ignition. (It should also unlock the doors when you turn the car off.)
Does that remote have a brand name on it? It should have some kind of indicator light...does it light up when you press the button? If not, remove the screw on the back, snap the unit open and replace the battery.
