Wiring problem.

I have a 1990 Formula 350 I do not know if this is stock or if the original owner did this. I have a wire coming of the battery that supplies power to the fans, when the primary fan comes on like it should and I am stuck in traffic it melts the fuse holder on the wire and then after a few days it blows the fuse. Is my fan drawing to much current and going bad? I am at a total loss here.
Thanks, Gary

The factory setup uses a fusible link - a short small gauge wire - that feeds a large gauge wire that routes to the fan relay(s). A fan motor draws around 8 to 10 amperes, or so. If it is drawing more than that, the motor is probably on its way out. Pep Boys sells lifetime warranty replacement fan motors for around $50, or so.

I've seen 14 ga & 16 ga fusible links. If I remember right, the 16 ga link package had GM marked on it. I'm not sure what the amperage rating of the links are.

Thanks, I went ahead and ordered a new cable. I think the fusible link should be part of it.
