Longer starter cable

I want to run a longer (+) cable from battery to starter, over the fenderwell and back down under the A/C box to reduce heat soak from the header. Will I experience any problems using a longer wire? The cable is the same gauge thickness with excellent connections. Resistance will be more with a longer wire though right? Do I need to go up to a 4 gauge ground and hot cable? 6 is stock right?

Not sure what the stock size is, but it won't hurt to go with a larger cable; also you may consider installing a Ford remote starter relay in-line with the cable...it will definitely help the heat-soak problem.

You cannot go too big, run as big a cable as you can afford. I run a "00" gauge(1/2") cable on both positive and neg because I have 10.5:1 compression and a hi-torque starter.
You will have less voltage drop with a large cable which keeps full battery voltage to the starter. Makes cranking quicker especially in cold weather.
