85mph V6 Cluster to 145 mph V8 cluster

85mph V6 Cluster to 145 mph V8 cluster
Well the Subject line pretty much says it all. Will this work in my car easily without any problems. I have an '86 Firebird w/ the 85mph cluster & want to swap to a '91 T/A 145mph cluster.
Can this be done w/ no problems? Thanx

Not exactly. The atachs are different: the V6 motor gives 3 pulses per revolution of the crank, but the V8 gives 4; so if you put a V8 tach in a V6 car, it will read 3/4 of the right RPM.
You should however be able to put your 6-cyl tach in the other cluster, and then everything should work.

RB is exactly right, the TACHs are different.
But the speedo's are basicly the same, providing your car has a VSS. If the speed sensor in the back of your trans has two wires, your OK, If it has the big black speedo cable, your going to have problems.

Hey Mike. Since you're doing the KITT conversion, why don't you go w/ the KITT dash too? I found a site somewhere where the guy makes em, AND all the useless plastic overhead and console pieces COMPLETE w/ the usless buttons and switches that will light up. Would be kinda cool to hook Nitrous up to a SUPER BOOST button or somethin.....although since KITT was a v6, doubt the 6'er could handle it easily
