Audible Turn Signals

Does anyone know of a gizmo that beeps or chimes loudly with the turn signals? Too often I catch myself running down the road with a blinker on. With a loud dinger, this would never happen.

Radio Shack sells small 12 volt piezzo audible alarms that would work. You could either use two alarms - one for each turn signal, or use two 1N4003 diodes (from Radio Shack) and one alarm. For the one alarm / two diode setup, connect the cathodes (banded ends) of both diodes together & connect them to the positive input of the alarm. Ground the negative input of the alarm. Connect the anode of one diode to the left turn signal wire (light blue wire coming out of the steering column), and connect the anode of the other diode to the right turn signal wire (dark blue wire coming out of the steering column). The alarm will beep when the turn signal bulbs illuminate.

Also, some auto parts places sell what are called "loud" blinker relays. (Just like that with the quotes). They just click loudly to remind you they're on.

Yeah, J.C. Whitney sells loud turn signal flashers.

Personally, I can't stand that cheap-sounding clicking...I've been trying to find a silent one. I once tried wrapping the flasher in duct tape, but it didn't make much difference.

Tim,

I couldn't find any ready-made "kits", so I went to Radio Shack. I used the "one buzzer, two diodes" approach. It only cost me a coupla bucks, givertake. It worked like a chime!(typo intended) Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah. I think they sell some that zap the driver if they're on for more than 10 seconds. Ask AutoZone or some other auto parts store if they have them.

Just on a side note, I think cars should come with exploding blinker relays so that when old people or idiots on cell phones leave them on after a turn it'll explode after maybe 35 blinks.

My 90 cutlass had a warning beep if your drove with your turn signals on for more than a block.
