How to convert V-8 Tach to work for V-6, & see correct RPM's?

Hi All,
I have a dash gauge cluster from a 1985 305 4 bbl Firebird.
I have a V-6.
I want to use this gauge dash cluster.
What do I do to the tach to get it to read correct V-6 RPM's
A good friend suggested I'll only be seeing 25% LESS RPM's, because of 2 less cylinders.

ANYONE?

THANK YOU!!

The easiest way would be to get a six tach and change the one in the cluster.

I figured out an easier way.
I'm going wrecking yard hunting for Fiero V-6 dashes or any other F-Body V-6 car, or even the "generic" V-6's.
I pull out the dash to see the tach circuit board. If it is the same as the one I seek (I have the V-8 one in my hand), I grab it. Those circuit boards are attached by 3 1/4" nuts.
I have followed your advice, tho. I only "made" my tach a V-6 tach by swapping the circuit boards on the back.
