Starter soloniod

One day I went to start my car, The starter spun, slow, and would not stop. Even when I turned off the key. It just spun 'till the battery died. It even spun when I cut the starter wire under the dash. I remember in school, the teacher talking about the soloniod getting stuck. Does anyone know what I'm going through?

It sounds like a bad solenoid. It could also be a mechanical binding in the starter, but more than likely it is just the solenoid. You can replace just the solenoid (which doesn't cost much), or you can replace the whole starter to be certain.

If it was me, I would replace the solenoid.

I'm going to be dumping the worn 200 for a WC T-5 and a new 350 soon. I just need to get the car turned around.

A manual trans setup requires a different starter than an automatic trans setup, so you will be purchasing a new starter when you do the swap, as well.

Flywheels with two different diameters are used on small block V8's and 90º/V6's. Large flywheels/flexplates are 14" in diameter and have 168 teeth, small flywheels/flexplates are 12¾" diameter and have 153 teeth. Most blocks are drilled for both types of starters. Large diameter starters have two offset bolt holes, small diameter starters have two bolt holes which are parallel to the back of the block. Unless you are changing the flywheel/flexplate diameter, the starter will fit.

Yeah Tim, I found that out, but my T/A is at my grandmothers house, and I would like to turn it around to drop the motor in, and it's on a small hill. Just big enough so that I can't push it. Also, tuesday I go in for back surgery, and I'll have to wait to do anything anyway.

don't you have big strong friends?

or how strong is your granny?

I'd push any day before changing starters.
