Lockup Harness wiring question / Cruise control
Lockup Harness wiring question / Cruise control
I recently had a shop swap out my original carb and distributor for an Edelbrock 1904 non-computer controlled carb and distributor due to the fact that after spending six weeks trying to find a compatible ECM/PROM replacement they were not getting anywhere and I needed the car back. Am not sure if I made the right choice after reading through the board but whats done is done.
Anyway, they did install a lockup harness for the Torque converter ($151 - was that over priced?) and for the power supply, spliced into a wire that supplies the windshield wiper motor. The fuse for the wipers blew (how soon after, I don't know) as I found out only after needing to go somewhere when it was raining and having no wiper function.
I would like to know where a better spot would be to wire for power. I have grown less confident in the shops ability to do it correctly so will do it myself. (Not to mention the fact that they will likely charge me to fix it.)
I also should mention that when they did the swap, they totally removed the ECM harness. This brings up a second question regarding Cruise control operation. When I got the car back, I promptly set out to test it and found that when trying to set the control, the speed would increase by a couple mph (normal) but then it was like it was trying to over control by making constant, noticeable (read unsmooth) adjustments. Within a half minute after that, it just cut off. Did the ECM have anything to do with the cruise control? What few wiring diagrams I have (Haynes, Chilton's) don't show that any wiring passed through the ECM.
Any help would be appreciated.

i just performed a similar swap on my 86. the wire they spliced was probably for the electric choke. the instructions that came with me holley recommended splicing into the wiper motor hot wire as well. but i didn't do that, i spliced into the hot in run battery feed to the distributor. it works fine for now. the cruse control is probably no run by the ECM it is vacuum controled. if the shop neglected to hook the cruse to a manafold vacuum port the cruse would not work. im not shure about the shop you went to but the shop i work in would take the car back in and fix it at no cost since it wasn't do right the first time.
