brights will not works
brights will not works
hi, i have a 92 camaro and the other day i drove my car and i noticed that the switch will not work for the brights. i also noticed that i blew a fuse for the turn signals. well i had a problem with the trun signals before but it comes and goes. but i cant get the brights to work now. i was wondering if i need to replace the switch in the steering collumn or its a wire problem. ( also note that the car had a alarm replaced because previous owner lost the remote but could a wire the the old alarm was taped into cause this problem?) where can i get a wire diagram of the car?
thanks Aaron

Hi Aaron,
I JUST got done fixing that same problem with a car we bought this past weekend (91 RS).
The high beams operate via a switch that is pushed by a rod when you pull back on the turn signal switch. The switch is on the side/bottom of the steering column under the dash. You will need to loosen two 8mm bolts (one on each of a metal track) and slide the switch closer to the steering wheel. Check to see if it the right distance by clicking the switch while you do this. It is possible your switch is bad but if you are not hearing clicking at all, this is probably what is wrong.
I found it easiest to do this by dropping the panels and then dropping the steering column. It is a real nightmare of switches etc. in there and there is very little space. You'll see what I mean.
I removed the fuse panel (let it hang), disconnected the plug to the switch and moved various other harnesses out of the way. I used a 1/4" drive socket wrench, 8mm socket, long extension, and universal joint to do it. Not a fun job.
Now, my question is: Do the four headlights on the RS light up on the high setting or only the two inner ones?

Hi Aaron,
I think the Haynes manual gives wiring diagrams and instructions on how to remove the steering wheel housing.
Well, I discovered why I was having problems with my headlights.
The previous owner had installed the low beams in the high beam location and vice versa. He bent the third prong on the low beam out of the way so that the two prong connector would fit.
:lala: :nono:
In any event, one of the low beams was burned out completely and the other had mositure in the bulb. Bought a nice pair of HO Halogens at Wal-Mart for it. Plenty of light now.
