Car alarm.. stock ??
Car alarm.. stock ??
I'm saving up to buy a car alarm...but I'd like to be able to fix the one in my car. I'm not sure if its stock I mean could it be stock ? Heres whats wrong with it. (that i can tell) some1 cut the ground to the siren itself, inside the car on the shock sensor the ground is cut too and I'm sure there are other things missing. The remote is light green with 2 dark green buttons and one small yellowish green button any idea if this is stock or what brand it could be? I'm thinking its not worth dicking with and i should just get a whole new setup
If you can just hook those cut wires back up, and the alarm works, go ahead and use it. But otherwise, as you said, it would be far less expensive to just go ahead and buy a new one.
And that definitely is an aftermarket alarm...no thirdgen had a factory one that I know of. '88-up cars have the VATS security system, but it only keeps the car from starting...no siren, or remote, or keyless entry.

Is your car '88 or newer? Look at your ignition key...the VATS chip looks very odd and you will spot it right away, if you have one.
If you have VATS, then good...it can and does help make your car harder to steal. If you don't have it, forget about it. There are people on the Internet who are trying to retrofit the system into older GM cars, but it would take a lot of work and money.
