temp sensor's busted

Replaced my temp sensor cause I broke off the plug on the old one. New one says engine is running at nearly 220 degrees. The old one used to run with the needle just under the line between 100 and 220. This can't be right because I drove down the road w/ the heater on full blast for 15 min. and it didn't make a difference. I have a 195 thermostat.

Hi, this is 85 - LG4 under my new alias, the old one just wasn't me. Anyway the stat is new and I went to great pains to make sure it was in right. I'll try to check the sensor resistance and whether the thing was fouled when I put it in.Does anyone know what the temp sensor resistance should be at? Also, the coolant was fairly hot when I put the new sensor in, could this affect it?

The colant may need to be changed and the radiator flushed to help your problem. The other I can't help you,but I would take it back and say it was faulty just to see if you still have the problem after a good radiator flush.
