I just finished installing a complete Cyberdyne dash in my 88 Iroc. I like the way it looks and works, only one thing I didn't like. I cannot see my odometer and trip meter now. Is this normal for these dashes, anyone else have one on there Camaro. The dash is designed with slots over the odometer and trip so the original can show thru, problem is you can't see it thru the tinted plastic. Just wondering if this is normal, or if there is anything I can do about it.

Really? Do you have a pic of the dash kit you used? I'm assuming you are using PN# 4013 or 4014 which uses the factory odometers. I used to have the Cyberdyne #4003 which had it's own digital odometers. I now have the Intellitronix dash (which in my opinion beats the Cyberdyne dash all to heck except on a couple points.)

The only things I can suggest is to:

1) cut the acrylic cover piece over the reels so you can see them.

2) if you're more creative, use a router to "thin" the acrylic right above the reels so you can see through them a bit easier

3) trace the outline of the cover onto a piece of smoked acrylic from Lowes or some hardware store (it's usually really light), and use that piece instead

4) same as #3, but use clear acrylic and window tint of your choice instead

5) put some bulbs back into the cluster and see if the backlighting helps you see the reels at night (i doubt it).

 

I think you have the p/n's reversed. The 4003 & 4004 use the factory odometers, the 4013 & 4014 new odometer. I have the 4004 cyberdyne. From what I have heard cybedyne was bought out by Intellitronix and they are the same dash, They even are using the same p/n's. Other problem I found today is that the dash does not completeley black out during the day, can see the circuit board thru the black tint (which lets me see the odometer (which isn't working now)). This is on a convertible so it may not black out like it should.

I have an 87 IROC and I have just installed the Intellitronix digital dash. My speedometer works occasionally but most of the time it is displaying some crazy numbers. What wire did you hook to the grey speedometer wire? Mine is hooked into the brown wire coming out of the dash and it leads to the ECM. The rest of the dash works fine.

 

I'm not sure if the hookups are the same, mine came with a speed sensor that was to be installed between the trany and speedo cable (what a pain in the a$$ too). From that sensor there were two wires (white and black). The black got grounded and the white hooked to the white in the dash. Their speedo works fine, my origianl I don't think is working properly, but I can't see it thru the plastic. I think the origianl speedo cable is kinked with all the speed sensor and couplers in the trans tunnel.

Okay, I just pulled out the old instruction sheet from the Cyberdyne gauges, and I had #4014 (it's been a year since I switched to the Nord-Skog dash, so I forgot). The ones that end in 3 are for 82-83 Camaros.

And I can tell you from experience that the Cyberdyne and Intellitronix are NOT the same dash (even though the part numbers are the same; I got into a huge argument with the guy from Intellitronix: "We are not related to Cyberdyne!" "Well, why do you use the same part numbers!"). The only similarities are the red LED numbers. Past that, they're completely laid out different, function differently, and use different leads from the original harness. Believe me, I've had both dashes.

I'm back.

Thor: I had it hooked to the same wire, and it worked fine. I just had to calibrate it to 2000 pulses/mile. But it read slow, and the signal wasn't making it to the ECM and cruise control, so I was getting occasional code 24s.

Fix: I bought their speed sender (PN#9013 $47 from Summit Racing) and installed it in line in the speedo (there's a coupling under the brake booster). I installed it there because installing at the tranny kinked the cable so bad it wouldn't turn. I left the factory sender in to send it's signal to the ECM and cruise control. That solved the whole speedometer problem except an occasional walk on the wild side which I think is due to a loose ground wire. Did you ever fix your tach problem?

And yeah, if there's sunlight shining right on the panel, you're gonna be able to see the circuit board. I don't have that problem (except around sunset or sunrise, but I can still see the numbers and that's all I really care about) because the dash is in my coupe.

I have not fixed the tach yet. Since I got engaged my vehicle time has plummeted. I need to fix this stuff though. I am a slacker. Did your tach do the same?

From what you guys are saying the hookups are totally different than my cyberdyne. I installed mine in a 1/2 hour and everything works properly. very simple install, hardest thing was the stupid coupler/speed sensor install. I did get my trip to work, when installing their instructions where wrong by saying to pull the trip reset button out, I did, and broke the mount for the trip wheels. Had an extra and replaced, all works fine, just can't see the odometers behind the tinted plate. What is better about intellitronix, summit told me they were the same(just bought out by intellitronix) and that intellitronix would still warranty the cyberdyne.
