HEEEELPPPP!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!

For a while, my starter has been acting up on me...an electrical problem most likely...like you will turn the key and nothing happens except for the electrical things being on...anyway

I'm out by my car tonight just getting my weightlifting gloves out of the trunk...the keys were in my hand. Out of nowhere, the little alarm speaker beeps once, and the car just starts by itself!! The headlights came on too!! And this is all with the keys just IN MY HAND!! Scared the living SHYT out of me...and nothing responded to the key when I actually did put it in the column...I turned it, and the engine wouldnt shut off, and the headlight controls didnt affect the headlights...so then I step on the brake cause I was gonna see if the gearshift had anything to do with it, and the car shuts off when I press the brake pedal (headlights too), and after that, the car responded to the key and controls like normal. WHAT HAPPENED?????? HELP ME!!!! I dont want to have a possessed IROC!!

If you have a remote start system I would start there.

(LOL hard)....sounds like your starter kill on your alarm is grounding out or something. Check the wiring under the dash for loose connections. Check the starter solenoid for loose connections also.

Just F.Y.I. to anyone else who decides to respond to this topic- no, as far as I can figure out, my car is NOT equipped with a remote start mechanism..although I cant seem to have that make sense- if it WASNT from a remote start device malfunctioning, wouldnt the starter continue to crank even after the engine starts (since they ARE capable of that)?

How long have you had your car? It definately sounds like you do have remote start on your car. It is possible that if you do, then you accidentally pressed the start button. You can check if you do by trying all of the functions on the remote.
With my remote start system, my alarm gives a warning chirp before the car is started by remote, then the car cranks and the headlights come on to indicate that the car had started. After it has started, the car is either shut off when the brake is pressed or the remote is pressed a second time. There is also a relay that is wired to disable the starter when the alarm is sounding, or the car has been started via remote. This will keep you from grinding the starter when you turn the key by habit. Being as I wired my alarm and remote start myself, I can assure you that this is the desired effect of my particular system. I think that it is highly unlikely that the conditions of the remote start would occur on accident or a coincidence. If this is the case, then it is likely that the problems that you are having starting your car are related to the starter cutout relay that is probably installed between the keyswitch and your starter solenoid. If you do infact have remote start on the car, then this is where I would look first.I would try this if you haven't had your car long, it is possible that it is installed but you weren't told this when you bought the car.

Yup...figured out the remote start function..I feel like a total dumb@$$...thank you all for your help though anyway..

I just leaned on the remote and pressed both buttons at once (something I never really did before cause I thought one button did nothing), and it started...oh well

Glad that we could be of assistance. If you get the problem with starting the car by key again, make sure that you check the starter cut out, that should be your culprit. If it happens when you're not at home, then just use the remote start to get that car started, put the key in and drive it home to fix it. It's not a solution, but at least you won't be stranded.
