Alternator Swapping
I have an 84 Camaro into which I'm swapping the serpentine belt drive and all accessories from a 91 Z28. I need info on adapting the newer alternator wiring to the older car wiring.
Use the older alternator and just swap the front pulley on from the older v-belt pulley to the serpentine pulley. Hold the pulley in place with a screwdriver and loosen the pulley retainer nut. Better than screwing with the electrical stuff I think. Our 3rd gens have enough electrical problems without inducing anymore. That's what I would do.

That wont work. the SI series alternator is too big to fit in the serp. bracket.
Here's what I'm working with:
The old alt has the one connection on the lug that goes to the battery. It also has a connector plug with 2 wires- one red one which connected to the lug on the back, and a brown wire.
The new alternator has a lug on the back for the main batt. connection. I also have a generic GM connector with 3 wires coming out of it. The connector is a stock GM thing that mates with the alternator, and all of the wires are white, but one is a heavier gauge than the other two.
