No Spark...not Ignition Module
No Spark...not Ignition Module
hey, I have a V-6 piece of sh*t...I want a better car but I have no money. I replaced the timing chain over the weekend, along with the plugs, wires, fuel filter. When I finished putting the front of the engine back together last night after finishing the timing chain, I took it for a test drive. It started right up...I drove it five miles, turned it off, started it again...everything worked fine.
This morning I went out to start it up, and it cranked strong but wouldn't start. After being confused for a long time, I checked one of the ignition wires to see if I was getting any spark. There was no spark. I had had this problem the same time last year and it was the ignition module. I thought it was weird that is would be bad already, but I put a brand new one in. Still, no spark...........I am really confused now.
By the way, the ignition coil and distributor cap are about a year old, but both look good. Any ideas???

I would suggest testing the pickup and ignition coil with an ohmmeter for continuity.
A Haynes manual will tell you what kind of numbers to expect.
Try cranking the engine over with the distributor cap removed, have a friend check that the rotor and such are actually turning when you crank the engine over.
That's all I can think of for now...

did u happen to disconnect the coil from the sparkplugs at any point and crank it? that will damage the coil, you need to ground it if u take the wires off the plugs, or not connect the coil to the distributor cap.
