Died While Driving?!?!

Ok guys, I was driving down the bypass at steddy pedal. Next this I heard was a light "POP" sound and the car died. (I am thinking the pop sound could have been a small backfire when it died?). I have headlights, dash light, domelight, power locks, horn and brake lights. I turn the key foward and there is noting at all no radio, no heater, no annoying buzzer and the starter doesnt even try to turn over. If I turn the key backward then I get a annoying buzzer and the radio works. We tested and there is no power going to the coil. Doesnt this sound like an ignition switch? I dont know why it would go out while I was driving. Could the starter have locked up? It was just weird that I lost everthing and it died that fast.

Please help me.

i would start by checking all the fuses, then check the fuseable links. see if you have power at the purple wire at the starter with the key in the start position with a test light (you will need 2 people to perform this) best of luck, tom

it sounds like the switch to me. I say this because you say you have radio in ACC. but not in RUN. it seems a little wierd just going like that but maybe it doesnt like the extra draw of your after market coil. i think if it were me id put the coil its own relay.

the same thing to me, I had interior lights, guages worked, no radio, no sound from the fuel pump. after I had taken it to the shop, they found that the wiring harnes at the rear of the engine had worn down and was touching the coil bracket. the end cost was $260.

Got it!

I fixed it on Sun. It was a borking starter wire. When I put the new engine it I had a friend patch that wire that I cut. (Little did I know the dumb a$$ taped it insted of crimping it with the connecter and crimpers I gave him...) I added a few peices to wire to both the starter wires seeing how they were to tight. It was a freak thing I guess.

Thanks for the replys guys. Its good to know the people on this bored are willing to help someone they dont know. To bad more people arn't like that around here in Marion.
