Think I have a drain on the battery....need some advice

Well after a good dcharge and a week of driving everyday, I park the car for about 5 days. I come out to start it and its dead as a doornail. So I charge it. Its fine for the day. I shut it down overnight......bang its dead as doornail in the morning. I think I have a drain. Im just looking for some advice as to wear I even start the troubleshooting.

Thanks

I know that sometimes that the radios, if aftermarket, can cause problems with presets if not properly installed- mine did till' I fixed it.

Hope this helps- I'd also check for any lights (such as button operated)

have the same problem (or similar)

after 24 hours or so the battery would be SHOT.

New battery, still have the problems.
Just replaced the alternator today, and my dad wanted to test something before we hook the battery up on it..

we'll see if that fixes the problem, not sure what's draining it though..

Put an Ammeter inbetween the positive cable for the car and the positive post on the battery. Any good voltmeter will do this. If there is a draw it will show it. If there is, have someone go to the fuse box and start pulling fuses, noting which one goes where, once the meter shows no draw, after pulling one of the fuses, then thats the circuit that has the draw. That should narrow it down a whole lot.

If you have no draw, then the Batt. might have a bad cell, have it load tested at a parts store.

Hope that helps.

another word of advice, check your wire going to your alternator, make sure it is on there pretty tight and doesnt have any burn marks on it

Edge does your car have the factory radio still??? If so, does the diplay stay on?? If so that is your problem. Alot of GM radios in time will have this same problem and it will kill the battery. If not StngKlr has the right idea.
