hey, i just bought a cobra 10 band esd-9560 radar detector and i hate how it looks hooking it up through the cig lighter.....is there any way to hook it up different.....i was thinking about cutting off the plug running underneith my dashpad into by console and hooking it up to my stock stereo power wire.....that wire is not being used because my alpine headunit is hooked up directly to the battery....so could this be done my way? thanks

 

theres only two wires right, ones a ground and the other is a 12 volt source.. just maybe run the wires behind the dash or something and fuse tap the power wire on the acess. fuse.. and then ground the other wire.. it should work right..

maybe try it with another wire/connector if you have one..

 

well its just got the one wire.....this is the pic of it.....i was hoping to tie it into the stock radio power because it is convinient and right there close.....but i dont know if it can be done...........excuse the messy office

 

if you cut the wire, there should be 2 smaller ones inside of it. i have my radar detector running to the ignition, so it starts up and shuts down with the car. just run the wires down thru your speaker grille, to the fuse box

 

what are the 2 wires? a power and a ground?

ok......thats good then......but what i really wanna know is can i hook the power wire too my stock stereo power wire to run it? the stock stereo power wire is not being used because my new headunit is being run directly to the battery

 

Well what you want to do is... hook the ground from the radar detector to the black wire on your stereo, which should be ground. Then find the red wire, which is ignition turn on and connect that to the red wire from the detector. This way it will come on with the ignition and turn off when you shut off the car, just your stereo would.

it should be alright...hook it up to something that turns on when u have the ign turned to the on position...when u start the car the radar will turn on....im gonna wire mine up soon....il also gonna make a connector so i can remove it...so no one can see it and steal it...
