could this work?

i was thinking about the cowl on my 84 t/a (the factory one) that opens at wide open throttle, now it looks like its all electronic so shouldnt it be possible to just tap a wire in to one of the wires going to the mechanism and then connect that wire to a switch, ground the switch and then have control of the cowl? (similar to the manual electric fan switches) Im not to good with electronics so any help would be greatly appreciated! Also would it even be possible to wire an led to tell me when the cowl is open? Thanx

Yup, it's completely feasible to manually operate the cowl mechanism with a switch inside the car. If you take a close look at the factory switch (I assume it's on the throttle linkage somewhere) you should be able to determine how the original wiring works. It probably sends +12V to the solenoid when the throttle goes wide open.

Take a good look at how the factory did it, get help with someone who is electrically knowledgeable if necessary. Then you can tie your own toggle switch in to work in parallel with the original one.

Hope that helps some.
