ok, well here it goes

my 87 Z28 is my project car

last fall i pulled out the ECM and what was remaining of the engine's emission controls part of the wiring harness

tonite i hooked up my starter and connected the battery

turned the key, nothing from the starter

i checked out the battery with a test light checked OK
poked the positive wire going to the starter and then held the other end to ground at various places...........checked out OK

tried to turn on my blinkers....nothing

checked the dome light for voltage nothing

it seems like nothing happened when i turned the key to the RUN position

i should note that i do not have my nuetral safety switch wired on my megashifter yet..........

ok made some progress today

figured out what some wires are and whatnot

what wires should be going to the small terminal on the starter solenoid? the purple wire coming from the ignition switch is one of them

on the starter solenoids large terminal i have the large black positive battery wire
it also looks like 2 red wires from the ignition switch were connected there

btw, i did buy this car as a ex-hack job

basically i need to know what my starting/charging/ignition system should look like

also, the main power feed to the fuse box, where should that be coming from?

The purple wire is the only wire to the small terminal on the starter. That red wire should go to the starter as well (year depending).
Also. you'll need a jumper between the yellow and purple heavy gauge wires on the neutral saftey swith harness plug to send power to the starter if the switch is not plugged in.

I'm not sure about that wire.

The wiring diagram for 1986 shows a red wire. It leaves the pos. battery terminal, goes
through a fusible link, and then on to the fuse panel. Have you check the links?

I'll be going over to my shop in a bit. I'll see if I can find my Haynes manual.

thanx

i went outside to change the oil in my sister's neon, so while it was draining i figured i would mess around a little bit with it

i pulled down the fusebox and look at it
reconnected the battery and guess what.............we have power captain! i have an idea as to what i did, but i am not 100% sure since all i did was wiggle around a few wires

crap like this always happens to me
i am going to hunt this problem down though, cuz it could be potentialy dangerous to have a short/open in a circuit like this

i turned the key and the door signal chimed, and gauges went into position
my lights also work

i also have power between the purple and yellow wires on the NSS, however it still fails to crank (probably because the battery only has 9 volts left in it)

thanx so much guys!

3 or 2?

(its also very hard for me to see the starter because of the longtube headers i have on)

Two. (based on the diagram, and my recollection from the header install on my 86.)
The purple wire goes on one. The main cable and the red wire go on the big terminal.

fyi, the red wire goes to the "S" terminal of the alternator, and has a fusible link in it.

Just went and check my 86 TA... The two terminals that are used are the main one, and the
small one on the right. (Looking at the back of the starter from the front of the car.)
