A 105 is popular for most TG's, however if you really want to upgrade the alt the BC4 police package alt is the way to go. Go to www.alternatorparts.com. He is blowing out NEW, not remanufactured AC-Delco BC4 140 amp units for under $200. It is a larger capacity unit as well as being physically heftier to handle heat better. If your budget can support it that's the best deal around. Chain auto parts stores sell junk anymore as you will see if you read the posts. If you can't get new try a couple of boneyards. Just make sure you get one from 87 up. TG's use 2 different units. Early ones were the 10Si series, later(87 and up I think)were the CS series. They both will work, however the plugs are different and require an adaptor or rewiring. You can also take the old unit to an alt/starter repair service. They can install a larger stator to increase output but that also is cost dependent
as to whether it's worth it or not.

I purchased a Powermaster 140 Amp Chrome alternator from Summit and have found it absolutely excellent. It is a direct fit replacement job and even comes with new chrome screws.
You might want to upgrade your battery also.

Stone89ROC:-
I'm at work right now and can't remember the part number offhand.
Drop me an email me asking for the number and I'll dig out out when I'm at home.
I did a quick search on Summit and believe it was one of these:-
PWM-37802 Alternator ``Chrome`` 140 Amp GM TPI/Fuel Injection O.E. Wire Hookup $165.95
PWM-37861 Alternator ``Chrome`` 140 Amp GM TPI/Fuel Injection O.E. Wire Hookup $165.95

I put a CS 144 (140 amp) unit into my 91 Z. I purchased it at http://www.alternatorparts.com after my original factory unit quit and 2 remanufactured units failed all inside of 3 years. I cannot complain about the original factory unit but the first remanufactured unit lasted exactly 13 months (and around 1500 miles) before the front bearing siezed on the way to work. The second CS 130 unit died after 15 months (and around 3000 miles). The CS 144 has so far lasted 12 months (~10,000 miles).
