Need speedo help with 4L60E swap.

I have been searching for the past hour or so and can't find the answer I am looking for.
I need to know what type of signal is coming out of the VSS buffer box and into the speedo itself.

My cluster is an 86 Trans Am 140mph unit.
I have an external VSS buffer box.

Here are some other specs on the car.
95 LT1 with 4L60E.
I noticed on my friends swap when we were calibrating his Autometer Speedo that it was receiving 4000 pulses/mile from the VSS wire that I assume was tapped off of the computer (it's a custom harness from Speartech).

My other questions are, can I hook up my Speedo to the VSS wire off of the computer or do I need to use the buffer box, and what type of signal goes from the buffer to the speedo.

Thanks.

On my 90 RS, LT1/4L60E swap the speedometer is hooked directly to the pcm bypassing the buffer box.

I assume that it works for you with no problems, right?
If so, then I should be good to go.

thanks

Yes it works great. Of course you will have to have your pcm programmed for your rear gears for it to be correct.

Thanks.
Programming shouldn't be a problem. I have to go in there and turn VATS off as well as change a few things like raise the speed limiter, turn off any smog crap, etc...
I'll be using TunerCat since I am very familiar with it and the DEF file for an LT1 is only $20.00.
