305 to 383

I plan on starting a project, swapping out the 305 TPI and putting in a supercharged Miniram 383...

Will i be able to reuse any wiring? Which ones, what can i not reuse? For the ecm, can i reuse that? And i am gonna try and learn to program my own prom so if i kept the one from the 305 will i be able to just reprogram it as i wish for the 383?

Anything else i should know about anything electrical from a 305 to a 383 swap, please let me know

Thanks for the help

I'm sorry I can't give you any difinitive answers, but hopefully someone more knowledgable than me can either tell you that I'm wrong or that I know what I'm talking about.

I believe you can reuse your ECM, but there will need to be a lot of changes made.
The wiring should all be the same, assuming that you want to keep all the sensors and things the same.
You will need a DFI (I think that's what it's called) to help out your ECM if you bolt on that supercharger, unless you swap out your stock one for an ECM out of I think a Cyclone, or something to that effect (there's a Tech Article about it)

As I said, I don't know for sure about any of this, but I've done some research for a while, as I am planning the same thing for my ride.

You will need a different ECM.
Honestly, I would just go with an aftermarket system. I am going from 305 TBI to a 383, but not SC'd YET, but soon. At that time I will go with a whole new system.

You Don't need a "whole new system". The entire wiring harness will still be used in your new setup. what you will need is the 2 bar MAP sensor from a Syclone/Typhoon and an ECM (749 ). The ECM is readily avialable from a junkyard or directly from GM and off of Ebay.
Check this page http://www.speedtoys.com/~bort62/7749/Index.htm it goes into detail on how to do what you are looking to do and gives part numbers etc....New system..BAH. GM's systems are hundreds of times better than aftermarket and tons cheaper.

By a whole new system I meant DFI. Aftermarket fuel management systems, not a new wiring harness. BIG difference

Ok, i am not too sure i am gettin this...

Is it necessary to go out and find an ECM and sensors from a typhoon? I dont want to go through all that trouble...

If i can reuse the ECM how can i do this? I hear DFI all over the place... what is it, how is it different then whats on a 305 TPI automatic 92z and what parts make up a DFI?

Again, i am very new at this and i dont want to go into anything too complicated... and if it would be easier to buy newer parts, i can try and work for the extra money so dont worry about sharing any sort of ideas...

ANy help would be appreciated, thanks

If you think that is trouble, DFI is gonna really be a pain. All you need is the ECM and MAP sensor from the Cyclone/Typhoon.

You cna TRY to piece things together or you can get the right parts upfront and be able to tune much easier. You will REALLY need to tune for a SC'd system. There are a lot of systems out there. I would contact the place you are getting your supercharger and see what they say. See if they will put it on for you and tune it up... Might be easiest way.

Is that all it will really take... an ECM and an MAP sensor from a typhoon? Then i guess it wouldnt be too bad... i am in no rush at all with the setup... so i will take the time to get things done correctly...

Would it just be installing an MAP sensor on the 383 and tuning the 383 to my specifications....

Thanks lot for the help, its alot easier then i had expected...

Before i get the supercharger on i will probably running just hte motor for a few months just to get it all working great. Now, can I use all of my existing ECM components to just run the motor without a supercharger for a while? and i'd just do the ecm swap when the supercharger comes on.
