Has anyone had problems with their volt meter not reading correctly, specifically in a 1985 Trans Am? My alternator went belly up on me today, and I replaced it (AC Delco reman under warranty, which reminds me that they no longer have lifetime warranties on their products, just one year), and after getting it in and running, my guage only reads right at 13, but my multimeter is showing it charging a strong 14v at the battery, and way back at my stereo distribution box as well, so I'm getting 14 all around except to my guage. Does anybody know if there's a way to fix this like lubing the needle or rewiring something? I know that these factory guages are just a 'reference', but I think it should be closer than what it's showing. I don't want to put in an aftermarket voltmeter just yet either...thanks!

u could pop the needle off the gauge and move it to the correct position.

if you were talking to me, i was being serious about moving the needle.

 

Granted, that would solve the superficial problem, but I don't think it would correct what is really wrong...besides, aren't the needles keyed, like stereo *****? only fit one way? I don't know, I'm asking....

 

its keyed but only to a certian range. it can still be slightly off. ive had to take my dash apart a few times and when taking the needles off the gauges its very easy to put them on wrong.
