Wiring harness
Wiring harness
Does anyone know where i can get a new wiring harness for a 84 Trans am ? Painless said that they only carry a universal harness, and that i'd have to make all my own connections. IM looking for something a little more plug and play.
That does suck now doesnt it. Im thinking of just yanking a donor engine/computer/harness from a later model camaro/firebird. Painless says their universal harness kit will work but it doesnt come with any of the connectors on the ends.
Yup does suck.
Anyway make sure the harness and ECM are compatible with your car. You don't wanna go yanking a LT1 harness and go trying to stuff it in your car. Go luck finding one in a bone yard that isn't all chopped or weathered. I've tried with no luck so far.

Wait! you mean i cant yank a later model harness and put it in my car ? then how do pepole wire tpi engines when they do a swap ? Hmm i might just buy the universal kit, because there is no way im driving my car with all the exposed wire under my hood.

On wiring harnesses, I called a local Chevy dealership today, and parts department said they cannot tell me how many circuits my Berlinetta has (didn't even ask me the options), cannot order a wiring harness, and doesn't know where I can find one. I asked him if I would have to fabricate one myself, he said probably. www.gmpartsdirect.com has wiring harnesses but then I run into the how many circuits question again.
Anyone know how to fabricate a fuse block?
It doesn't look like Chevy cares about our cars

If you have the following more than likely you will need a 18 circuit harness:
power windows
power doorlocks
hatch relase
crap like that. if you go with a 18 circuit harness you dont have to use all of the circuits. but thanks for that link!

I just did a tpi conversion on my 82 trans am, I used a complete dash, trunk and engine harness from a 87 trans am, everything was plug and play except for the wiper motor and the cruise control, had to change the instrument cluster since the 87 uses a electric speedometer.
what harness are you looking for, I have a 84 trans am that I'm gutting for a LS-1 conversion, I dont have the ecm harness anymore though.

I'd actually need the engine harness. Getting a harness from the same year as my TA would solve the old wiring problem, but i actually need to get a harness from a 70's TA since my motor is from a 79 el camino. Im just trying to clean up the engine bay
I have a computer harness from a '85 TA which is in pretty good shape, it should be the same as your 84. your welcome to it if you pay shipping. I HAD the harness for the engine but I have cut it up pretty bad for wire, still have most of the connectors for it though.
