wireing auto meter guages.. which wire gives me power?

ok so im a moron when it comes to wireing, and yes i have both chiltons and haynes manuals..but i cant read schematics. the guages im trying to wire up are water temp, and AIR/Fuel ratio guage. the problem i have is finding a wire that is part of the ignition or is on only when the ignition is on...

yes i know everyone says "oh well just use the ignition wire"... yeah too bad i have no idea which one that is... i have tried to wire them up to a big pink wire coming off the steering column.. but to no avail... no power..

can some one direct me to what wire i need?? im completely lost and i need very direct and accurate info.. under the dash.. where, what, am i looking for?? please help
