changing taillights...HELP!!!!!!
changing taillights...HELP!!!!!!
First, let me say that I HATE WIRING!
And I apologize in advance for the length this post is going to be.
I am trying to put trans am taillights into a 91 formula. I read the different threads and one website's instructions on how to do this, and I go crosseyed trying to look at the wiring examples. I did, however, get one side working on my own, and so I'm going to try to explain what I did to get the new lights to work, and would appreciate if someone please tell me if I'm doing something that is going to short something or worse.
My old lights had 2 small lights.....those I left alone. There were 4 large sockets, 3 that were more flush to the taillights than the other, and one light that stuck out further (the turn signal light in the old taillights). I put the three lights of the same kind into the new taillights in their respective places, making the inside of the trans am lights the reverse, the next two running and brake lights. The remaining one was the turn signal light that I had to work with. And it was too long to plug into the socket and still allow me to connect the light.
The trans am taillights I got had two of the flush lights in them already. One had two wires, the other had three. I took the one with two wires and wired it in place of the old turn signal light, and put a one filament, turn signal bulb (like in the old lights) into the different light socket (from the new lights). It plugged in, and flashed at the same rate as the old one and was pretty bright so I figured it was all ok.
My problem is not that it doesn't work; it works just fine. I'm just concerned that something I did there may not be kosher as far as wiring goes that may cause a problem. Can anyone help me?
