you will need the whole wireing from the computer you would want to use to all the sensors. your choices that would seem most logical would be the 88-90 tpi harness and computer (non cold start injector, 86 and 87 have a 9th injector and the 85 you wont want to use) or the 91-92 speed density setup which uses a map sensor instead of the maf that the early systems used. once you get the setup (perferably from a camaro, firebird will work but a couple of the wire routings will be different) it will pretty much self expanitory because almost all of the conectors are different or the ones that are the same are only long enough to go were they are suppose to go.
it is not very hard, just time consuming.
good luck

my confusion is on the driverside of the car. i know were all the ecm related items go from the tpi harness.but i dont know what plugs into the driverside harness were the old v6 one used to hook to the firewall. after i removed and the v 6 wiring harness and reinstalled the v8 tpi harness there is no wires going to the driverside firewall no wires going to the starter and no power inside the car. was there two harnesses inside a 89 and only 1 in a 92?i only removed 1 from the 92.

can you take a pic? i will see if i can get a good pic of that area some time this week and post it.
if you get a pic i might be able to tell you were stuff goes.
make sure you get a few different angles.
thanks

after pondering what you said. i think what you are saying is that you removed the connector on the firewall next to the column and the brake booster? if you did you have to use that part of the harness that was originally used with the car. i think your battery harness is also the same as what was used with the original harnes (seperate). see if you can serperate all of that and install it back on the car. i bet that will fix your problem.
hope that makes sense.

yea i see.. so i have to seperate the v 6 harness take out all the batterey related items and reinstall it? .the only promlem there is that i need the v6 one to put in my s10 3.1 swap...hmmmm i bet i could make one. ok..also..there is three harnesses that plug into a ecm an a 92 and 2 on a 89 but also there is a little harness that goes off from the same area up into the dash and plugs in. know wich one im talking about? well on my new tpi 89 harness theres 8 wires in it ....on the one it pluges into theres only 5 wires leading into it. do you know what these wires do?

the one on the driver's side goes to the fusebox and dash harness on the inside of the car, and is the headlamp harness on the outside of the car. The one directly to the left of that on the firewall is the cruise control harness, the one to the left of that is the heater controls, and the one all the way on the side that goes through the fender is the ECM harness, and all your engine sensors.
Hope that makes sense

actualy... sorry to confuse but the one im confused with is on the inside were the ecm plugs in. there is two that hook up into the ecm and one the goes somwhere else in the up into the dash. thats the one i need to know what it does?
on my 85 TPI I had a second box piggybacked on top of the ECM that required a third plug. The only other thing I can think of would be the wires for the gauges. Oil, water temp, voltage, tach. It's gonna pull signal from the ECM, not directly from the motor.
I'm not certain on that, but it's definately something to check out
