keep frying wires

I have a 91 RS 305 TBI that keeps frying a particular wire. The wire im talking about looks like it goes from the alternator, under the ac compressor, to the power distribution point next to the battery and radiator. the car kept frying it to the point that no wire was coming out of the fusible link. So i replaced the fusible link and it keeps frying the connection and I kept cutting and resplicing and now Im almost out of wire coming out of that fusible link. It usually takes it about 3 or 4 weeks to fry the connection. Im not sure what the deal is. I dont have any added electrical components except for another radiator fan and thats it. Stock radio has never been removed. Also, my car seems to eat starters. Every once in awhile, the car wont turnover but the dash will light up. All i get is a click. Usually if i wait around 15 minutes, it'll start. I replaced the battery cable and i still have this problem. Are the two related?

well, if it's not blowing the fusable link, chances are it's not exceeding its maximum current capacity.

That means that most likely, you need to find a better repair technique, or better yet, just replace the whole line.

^ What he said...or maybe replacing the whole line (like Jim said) with a larger-gauge wire?

You should be able to get that off any 88+ thirdgen. I don't think it's unique to the TBI motor. In either case, you can always make your own out of the proper gauge wire and an inline fuse.

I had the same intermittent problem. I have an aftermarket air cleaner installed and it was pressing into the hot wire going into the coil thus intermittently shorting out to ground.

Check that!
