tail light problem

My insturment panel and my tail lights are not working. Ive checked my fuses but i dont see any of them blown. Someone told me they where both on the same fuse is this true? And does anyone have a picture of a fuse box and can point out what fuse or fuses they are? My brake lights work just not the tail lights.

Your headlight switch might be bad.

The tail lights and instrument panel are not on the same fuse, well not in my 87firebird they arnt, check the head light switch, i found mine at NAPA for $20.

Then i lost power to my instrument panel due to a bad + wire, had fun tracking that down.

my headlights go on just not my tail ligths. Are you saying that they should both be on the same fuse? and if it just the taillights not going on it could be traced back to the **** up front? Hey thanks ill check it out. I was going nuts looking for an extra fuse.

guessing you got a cammaro, you probly have a diff type of set up then what is in my car. I would check all fuses. You can look in your owners manual or a haynes or chiltons manuel for the fuse lay out. If this is the first or second head light switch in the car its probly warn out and needs to be replaced. When did this start happening?

More than likely its not the same fuse that controls both.

There is a small module behind the radio, has a large heatsink on it, if it's bad or missing, your dash lights and your parking lights won't work.
I found this out when I put my new radio in my car a couple of years ago and I thought that module was part of the old radio.
Turned on the car and my lights didn't work. Plugged the module in and everything was fine. I think it is part of the dimming system, but I am not sure why the parking/brake lights run through it.

I'll snap a picture of it in a minute for you.

Let me see if I can help. Your head lights are fed from a fusible link, not a fuse. The tail lights along with almost every other exterior light is fed through the "tail" fuse. The instrument cluster is fed through the "inst lamps" fuse and the interior lights are fed through the courtesy (ctsy) fuse. All of which circuit's are completed by the headlight switch. If your exterior lights (minus your headlights) and your overhead lights do not work, the Headlight switch is the only thing in common. Out of curiosity, do your parking lights work if you pull the light swich out half way? If not, I would definitely go with a new switch.

I still think it's the light switch. The brake lights and blinkers work regardless of the position of the light switch. We know this. However, the parking lights (I still need to know if they come on when you pull the light switch to the first position), dash lights and tail lights only come on when you pull the light switch out. If the parking lights do not come on when you pull the light switch out, replace the light switch. By the way, the reason the blinkers work and not the tail lights is because the blinkers are powered from a diferent feed than the tail lights. They are the same bulb, but the bulb has two filaments.
