Crossfire Fuel Pump Wiring....

I'd like to install an 83 Crossfire intank fuel pump in my 86 TPI's tank (converting to Carb). If I maintain the stock TPI's fuel sending unit, will there be any problems as far as obtaining the right voltage, or hook-up etc...

(I'm trying to avoid an aftermarket pump, and would like to run with a much less 'psi' intank pump, along with the Mallory AFPR)

ANY feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks

i have an 83 crossfire. i had to replace the tank and the pump. I replaced it with an 87 fuel tank. The only thing that i ran into was that i had to cut the conectors and switch them. Just reversed them. It was a pretty simple job.

Thanks for the reply!!!

Somebody mentioned 'ring connectors' for the Crossfire harness hook-up, and that they screw into the body of the pump with two screws....

I didn't get the chance to pick one up today (luckily the Pep Boys by me has three in stock).... but we're talking a simple three wire hook-up conversion, no?

It'd be a simple 'posi lock' wire connector job, and not a solder job, no?

Thanks again....

have you considered a 84 5.0 h.o intank pusher pump, they make around 5 psi, the cfi pump I would imagine would be a little much, granted your running a regulator, my 84 had this from the factory the pusher pump and the mechanical pump

Yah i just used them little color things that you crimp together that conects two wires. Not sure what they are called. But yah on a crossfire the wire were screwed onto the fuel pump and the 87 i think pluged in. I just cut the wires and crimped the new conectors on and it hasnt blown up yet =)

Yeah, I originally wanted to install a mechanical pump with the matching intank pusher, but whoever had the car before me installed a later model roller cam with the missing lobe...

Yeah I see what you mean now, as I just picked up a CFI pump ealier today. My crimp connector is a real cheapie piece, so I'm going to solder the connections together...

Worst come to worst, the pump will burn out on me.... but I don't think it will (especially with a AFPR with a return line). But we shall see.....
