Electronic Trunk
Hey everyone. Got my car today. I was showing it to my dad and when I popped the trunk the latch electronically lifts the trunk but then wouldn't suck it back down when I went to close it. Any idea on why this could be...and how this can be fixed?

I manufacture and sell the parts to repair your hatch pull-down unit. First pull out the plastic hatch suround trim to expose the hatch pull-down unit. Check that you have +12v at the red with white stripe wire. If not, then check for a blown fuse. If you can fiddle with the small black switch near the latch, and get it to work, then the striker-sensing switch is going bad. GM recently discontinued the switch, but I still have a few used ones.

is there a way I can convert this to a manual trunk without having this electronic pull down thing?

Yes I ship worldwide. You've got mail. This past week I've shipped to the Netherlands, Hungary and even Canada. For some reason many of my Canadian customers have had me ship their orders to a PO box in an adjacent US State (wink wink,
).

well I don't live near the borders. I am in North Bay which is pretty far up north in Ontario. I would definately have to bite the bullet and pay full shipping to my house.
I did however have my neighboor look over the trunk as he used to have a 3rd generation Camaro with the same style of trunk release. He showed me what the problem was. That little latch on the top of the trunk was up so it wasn't making contact with the contacts on the bottom. He did some tooling and fooling with it and got it back working.
I am however definately interested in those Sub Frame Connectors. I have them on my Ford Tempo and man do they stiffen up the chassie and help prevent chassie flex and make handling ultra tight.

By contacts on the bottom I HOPE you're not referring to this. I borrowed that picture from a recent thread where the function was discussed. The contact pad in the picture has NOTHING to do with the hatch pull-down unit. On 1982-86 F-Bodies it powered the optional rear hatch wiper. On 1987-90 F-Bodies it powered the HMSL (high mount stop light ) aka third brake light. If he repaired the piece above that is on a spring-loaded hinge great, but that had nothing to do with solving your problem. It was a mere coincidence that the hatch pull-down unit worked again.
If he played with the large U-hook on the hatch that makes contact with the small black switch and latch then indeed he solved your problem.

I am not sure what he did..maybe it was the u hook. I wasn't really there when he fixed it. I figured that contact that you had linked to had something to do with it. Well I am just happy that the problem has been solved...gonna have to get him to show me what he did exactly.
