Foglights for a 88 TransAm
Hello,
I finally figured out what one of the buttons does on my dash. It was right below my head lights and had a light bulb on the pic. I pressed it when the car was turned off and nothing happened...so I pressed it when the car was turned on and nothing happened. So I turned on the headlights and pressed the button and did a walk around and noticed my fog lights came on. Actually I should say fog light. The driver side foglight seems to be burnt. I was wondering, where can I go to replace that unit and how much is it going to run me. Thanks.

Any parts store will carry them. If I were you I would replace both at the same time so they have the same brightness and then dont have to worry about the other one.

Man wish we had an autozone or pepboys up here in Canada. All I got is Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart. Well we got the local ***** shops (Quarter Mille Customs, Slicks Imports...). I would definately buy new foglights. Mine are pretty clear however I am sure they could be better, afterall...the car is an 88..its almost 16 years old and I am sure the previous owners never replaced them.
Also...Headlights on these TransAms...is it jus a bulb or do I have to replace the whole unit? My buddy drives an old TransAm, 2ndGeneration and he just buys the whole unit from walmart for $20 to replace his bulb...is that what I need to do when mine blow out?

You might just need to clean the contact area where the bulb seats.
I just installed some fog lights on my friends 86 T/A with some aftermarket ones and he gave me the factory ones, which I wanted to put back onto my car since they look nicer than the aftermarket ones I have, stylewise.
There is a U shaped clip that holds the bulb in place and I guess it gets loose over time so I just rebent it and and cleaned up the contact area and one of them worked, the other needed a new bulb, cleaned the contact area, put the new bulb in and it worked too.
Btw, those factory fog lights are very expensive, $240 for the pair last time I checked.
I'd personally keep the factory ones and just replace the bulb if it's bad.

ok ... I will just replace the bulb. I will be bringing the car into the local pontiac garage in the spring for a complete walk around and tune up. Replace every fluid, and bad sensors, dead bulbs, lube everything, oil change from whatever to full synthetic, engine flush, tranny flush, front end re-alignement...all the good stuff. I plan on getting them to replace the bulb at that time as well.
