Why is my fuse blowing?

Night before last my fuse blew for the tailights, dash light, and headlight motors for my Firebird. I replaced the fuse and all worked well for couple of hours. Now fuse blown again. Where should I start and what should I be looking for?

That sounds like a frayed wire grounding out. I'm not sure where a good part would be to start looking though.

I had the same problem with my 2nd gen. Would replace the fuse and checked that everything worked. Then out of the blue it would blow again. Turned out that when the car was put in reverse the engine would jump/torque just a little. This caused a wire to ground out against the firewall. Everything worked fine as long as you didn't put the car in reverse. So, we moved and taped the wire, problem solved. Hope yours is as easy to solve!

I would start with the ground wire for that circuit.

Actually, after I replace the fuse it blows right away again.

I unhooked the headlight motors and it made no difference. The wire that is grounding out has to be on the circuit for that one fuse only correct? I looked at the haynes wiring diagram but it's not too clear on what wires are hooked onto this circuit. The fuse is labelled "tail lt" yet my headlight motors and Dash display lights are not working as well. Does anyone know where on the car these wires are routed so that I can start tracing them? Thanks :lala: (i love this guy!)
