I need help for a anti-stereo theft project

Well i have lost my 4th stereo, and I have had it. I know i have the capability to bolt it in, but i also know that theives will tear my car apart to get it out. I dont want it to be to hard to get out because the damage to my interior could be worse than the theft of the stereo. so here's my plan:

1. attach my stereo to the frame of my car using thick braided steel cable. the cable will be shorter than the lenghth of the wiring harness so that the theif wont rip out wires.

2. attach a reed switch behind the stereo and a magnet to the back of the stereo. when the stereo is pulled out more than a few inches the reed switch will trigger a relay and set off a peircing siren in the thief's ear

3. the thief will not expect this, and will panic, and not have time to mess around with removing the cable. If i just use an alarm, the theif will most likely use a "smash and grab" approach. (which is what happened last time.

Car alarms are O.K. but through past experience don't prevent this.

Anyone have any input on this??

Sounds like a good idea.
Those pain sirens are mean, dont they blast at like 120-130 decibles? I want one when I get my alarm. Also gonna look into one of those field detector things.

Hide the stereo and use remote controls.

Mount the stereo in the console and put a stock one back in the original spot. I can guarantee that no theif will rip off a Delco!

Like the pic I attached, only a radio!

2 words, piezo alarms.. those babies are small and VERY loud.
also don't know what a reed switch is.. but if you put a limit switch on the stereo then when theif started to pull stereo out he would close the switch and bango.. dual piezos.
infact you might be able to put switch on plastic trim so when he pulls the trim he gets it..

don't forget the 20,000V door handle shocker though

strangly enough, when i was in highschool.. some kids did steal a firebirds stock delco radio... they also stole ONE of my TTops.. not both, just one.... and the top only worked on 82-83 camaros.

i have a siren under my dash, pointed at teh driver..... its painful to sit in the drivers seat when it goes off.

Anti theft

I knew a guy who installed RAZORS behind his radio, The thieves kept stealing his radio in his dirveway. Well after installing the razors, they tried again, keyword tried. He came out to his car and noticed blood all over the floorboard. he pulled out the radio and there was finger skin on it!

Anyway, the pager alarms work really well. The Porximity sensor is a good investment. If set up correctly it will send a warn away chirp when anyone gets within 2 feet of the car.

Most radios, come with a strap of metal called a back strap.
this is screwed into the back of the radio and bolted to a good location behind the radio. A REAL pain to install, means a REAL pain to get out..... beats the SMASH and GRAB thieves.

yeah, then they just thrash everything around the stereo when they can't get it out. truelly a no win situation

yeah thats my dilema... I want to make them thinks its easy to steal only to be scared off so they wont have time to trash it. The razor thing would **** them off and then they would probally torch my car. The damage to the car could cost more than the stereo would.....

How about a PDA or something like that with a hidden PC camera that is triggered by the alarm? That way, even if they do trash the car, you can trash them. Nothing like video evidence!

I did find a gps tracking system that could be somehow attached to the stereo (it is pretty small) that way after they stole it or the car, I could get on the net and see exactly where my stuff is and either:
1. Call the cops
2. Track them down myself
the only drawback is it runs about 20 bucks a month for the service and the equipment is about $300

i am kinda tossin around this idea. you kno the motorized faceplates..well y not make the entire deck motorized so when your key is off there is just a black peice of plastic but when you turn on the key the plastic hides away and your deck moves forward looking like it is installed with an adapter kit. but when u turn the car off in goes the stereo and down comes the plastic plate. i think this would b very hard to build and considering there isnt much room where the deck goes but it would b really cool!

I like that idea... and I made something for my PC case along those lines... easily made for a car!

I took an old CD-rom drive (I have like 100 of them) and gutted it. I just needed the tray mechanism and the motor to make it open and close. I mounted it so the CD tray opened up and down, glued a ivory piece of plastic to it, and plumbed it into the 12vdc on the motherboard that was for a case fan. When you hit the power, it opens up to reveal the drives!

I think that idea would be pretty easy to do, and there is plenty of room under the radio in the console to do it!

or if there isnt ne room put the stereo somewhere else so u can reach it and put cd's in it and still have the faceplate where the stock radio goes. but you would have to run some wires from the deck to the faceplate. i think that would b pretty cool too. plus you could put the faceplate newhere u want fairly easily!

Have the faceplate slide up out of the console standing up, and then have a cable that pulls the faceplate horizontal! Wow... I really need to get my creative energy out

yeah I like that idea with the reed switch or even a mercury switch. But the best thing to do is hide your ****, and don't play it within a 1/2 mile of your house, or at least keep your subs off, and music quiet. Just try to hide all your amps, and don't use speaker grills, make it look "stock", And anything that is visible, try to hide it with something, that looks stock. This seems to be the best thing to do. I'm going to try to get this 80's alarm off my friend jessicas 92 grand am, its this one, that if you grab the door handles, or any metal part of the car, it shocks the hell out of you.
Its like grabbing onto a igntion coil lead, without a plug wire on it, I like this one!

i'm pretty sure eclipse headunits have a GPS system chip installed in them, and if stolen they will find where it's at with no problems, i've never owned one but i'm sure they are quite expensive, i believe you can get a 3year warranty on it also for an extra cost with a factory installtion...
