weirdest problem ever guaranteed
ok guys check this out...for the past 2-3 weeks now everytime i started up the car the seatbelt dummy light wouldn't come on. ok, no biggie, who needs it anyway? tonight when i was driving home with the parking lights and fog lights on, everytime i stepped on the brake the light came on. i did some research with the brake pedal (i.e. push on it a couple of times to make sure) sure enough something linked to the brake pedal is making it come on. everytime i pressed down on it i heard a clicking sound, like there's a switch or button it's hitting. i have no idea in the world why GM would place a switch for something like a seatbelt dummy light attached to the brake pedal. it just really makes no sense to me. if anyone can give me some info i'd come over and file your taxes or something lol
thanks guys,

Just curious here, when you were experimenting with the brakes, was the car in motion at the time or was it parked with the gear in park? Your switch for the seatbelts should be mounted somewhere near the seat. On my 89 Iroc, the seatbelt warning switch is mounted at the base of the seatbelt by the door and has a wire that runs along the sill up under the dash.

trickster,
i tested the light out in both situations (parked and while in motion. while parked it was worse).

ok, let me fine tune the problem: when i have the parking lights on and my foot is not on the brake, the seatbelt dummylight comes on. when apply and take away pressure from the pedal i hear a clicking sound like there's a button or switch there. ( i just paid closer attention today O_o ).

Is the seatbelt fastened when this happens?
IIRC, there are 2 switches attached to the brakes, brake light SW,and one for the cruise control.

yeah it is. infact just for the sake of arguement. i'm going to buckle both seats and see if it still does it. something tells me it will tho. The light still doesn't come one for that breif moment when i start the car. i'm totally lost on this.

I don't know about your's GTAman, but my seatbelt warning light only comes on for a moment if I start the car without the seat belt buckled.

no, wires don't cross themselfs.
what circuitry is common to the seatbelt warning switch and the brake light switch?
usually the G-force is what locks the belts, unless GM put an electrical solenoid in the belts.

Have you tried just pulling the 'audio alarm assy' out from the (in)convenience center ? (under the dash to the right of the steering column).
The alarm is tied to your park lamp, ign switch & gauges. It is only tied to the drivers side seatbelt. The switch opens (on the buckel) when the seatbelt is fastened. This breaks the circuit and should keep the light from comming on when you start the car (no unfastened sealtbelt signal.. no need to warn).
This box is also what lights up the dash light.
Since it is solid state, there's a good chance something inside has simply burnt up and is now not making it work properly.
As for the brakes... not a clue why that would be. The only thing I could think of is since the stop lamps are also powered off the 'stop haz' fuse, the burnt up audio alarm could be hypersensitive to the current draw when the brakes are applied. I'm not that good with that typ of electrical so I'm just guessing there.
That's all I've got... here's the little pest that's causing your problems...

and the award goes to deadbird for his diagnosis! i say this because whenever you leave the key in the ignition and open the driver's door the buzzer goes off, right? well no when i do it, the buzzer doesn't go off. so it is the audio alarm.
so deadbird, can you give me more instructions on how to get the little bugger out.

Sweet... and I haven't done my taxes yet either

Yes, the alarm should sound with the keys in and door open. It should also sound with no key and lights on (door open too maybe ? been a long time since I've had an alarm).
You should find the "convenience" center just under the dash, right behind the ALDL connector. You will have to take the trim panel off to access it (has 7mm or 9/32 hex screws holding it). There will be 2 tabs to press in and the center drops down... the a-alarm will be the one in front.
Here's a visual (I'm not really quite that white either lol)

:hail: :hail: :hail: :hail:
P.S. does GM still make this part? because if it's possible, i'd like to repalce it so that everything works properly.

I don't know about all that. GM p/n is 10037041. You can check www.newgmparts.com www.gmpartsdirect.com or just www.parts.com to find a different dealer. Also, you could check the top page sponsers, they sell used f-fody parts. Also, www.tacreationsusa.com (I prefer them for used parts personally) or, just go to the local boneyard. Last option, you can just have mine (literally... well.. maybe $1-5 to ship it). I'm not putting it back in (I actually thought I threw it away before taking the pic of it lol).

hmm, i doubt this has anything to do with the burnt out audible alarm, but my hazard lights don't work. i push the button in and the lights don't blink. the turn signal lights function no problem. i am having troubles with the turn signal, specifically when i want to make a left turn, i have to swiftly flick the lever down so it clicks and stays on. if i just push it down it won't stick. man, everything is going out.

There is a relay for the hazard lights on that convenience center fuse block near the audio alarm system. You might also have to replace the turn signal switch in the steering column. Good luck!!!!!!!!

yeah, i was expecting to replace the turn signal anyways. it's all faded and i can't read what's written on there anymore. does anyone have a pick of this relay? i'm going to pull that audible alarm sucker out today so i might as well get both done in one shot.

so it's that big sucker? deadbird strikes again! :hail:
i tried taking the audible alarm out today, but it wouldn't budge. i tried wiggling, wobbling, and straight out pulling it but it's still in there. is there something i'm not doing? i stopped yanking on it in fear i might break something.
