Lack of headlights
Hey everyone, thanks to all your advice and some blind luck, I've got my car running perfectly again, actually much better than when I got it... But the headlights don't work, nor do the interior lights and instrument panel. I've searched and looked at the wiring diagram (which i don't really understand), and as far as I can tell, there is a short somewhere, possibly a blown fusable link. My question is, where are the fusable links located, specifically the one on the red wire in the main headlight circuit? I'm hoping that's the problem...

The red fusible link is on the wire at the starter solenoid, the interior lights (dome, underdash) are on the acc fuse, instrument lights have two fuses in the circuit, TAIL & INST IPS.

ok thanks...It's gonna be a pain to get to the fusable link, but oh well. So the rest of the interior stuff is not related to the fusable link? All my fuses are fine, what could be the problem?

The instrument lights are tied into the headlight switch. Therefore when you fix the fusible link for the headlights it should take care of the other problems.

One thing I forgot to ask, does your dome light and underdash lights come on when you open the door. The reason that I ask this is because your problem could also be a bad headlight switch. I just thought of that a moment ago, sorry.

nope, the dome light doesn't come on at all, nor do the under dash light. The headlights used to work about 2 weeks ago, so I doubt the switch went bad, seeing as I don't drive it (or use the headlights)...

Ok, so I went under my car and looked at the fusable links, it's gonna be a pain to replace, but I did see these two other wires (see pic). They were connected earlier, but not wound or with a cap like the others, so they may have come undone from something else. What do they got to? I can only find one of them on my wiring diagram, any ideas Trickster?

Boy Frank,
Somebody sure didn't do you any favors with that wiring did they? I would replace those plastic terminal nuts with some good weather-proof splices. Let me ask this, is your manual a haynes or chiltons? I also have those and don't like them, but that is just me. They only showed one fusible link at the starter solenoid. I also have the GM service manual for the 89 camaros and it shows three fusible links there. They are fusible link "A", "B", & "G".
Fusible link "A" goes to the connector on the driver side firewall where it connects to a red wire that has wire splices going to the fog light relay, ARC radio fuse on the convenience center fuse block, light switch, & the ACC fuse on the fuse block.
Link "B" goes to the blower high speed relay with a wire splice going to a 4 amp in-line fuse for the underhood light.
Link "G" goes to the alternator.
The purple wire goes to the park/neutral switch and the "CRK" fuse on the fuse block.
The three fusible links will have large terminal lugs and go on the large center post on the solenoid.
BTW, your fusible links are probably good, just not connected. The black items on the wires are the fusible links.
Hope this isn't confusing you.

Okay, I understand you completely, but my problem is that I don't know which one is A and which one is B. They are nearly impossible to trace since they run through the wire looms clear across the engine, and they are the same color... So I guess I'll just connect one and see if it works correctly... As I understand you, "A" needs to connected up to the splice running off the BAT terminal of the soloenoid, where does "B" go? Could aynthing worse than the link blowing happen were I to guess? Thanks man.

They both go to the same spot, You can hook one up and check your lights and then hook the other one. You won't blow anything up. JUST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST.
