VATS signal generator
I've swapped an 89 350TPI into my 87 firebird which did not originally have vats. I'm having trouble starting the car because i've got no fuel injector pulse. So i'm pretty sure good 'ol vats is my problem. Unfortunatly, none of the wreckers around here have any vats modules, and i don't know anyone who does PROM burning, so i was wondering if there's any way to make a signal generator to act as the Vats module to send to the ECM? Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Do you know the location of where the VATS control module is on these cars? I'm not making fun of you with this question Kyle. There are a lot of people here that don't know where it's located on the car and think it's not there because they can't see it.

yeah, from what i've read, its a grey box on the firewall behind the air vents. But my car was an 87 2.8L, and never had any vats key or anything. I made a new signal generator today with a couple different resistor values then before, and to my amazement it actually started up! I want to thank all who have helped me out so far, it's been very fun and educational (most of the time!!!)
Thanks again trickster....i'm sure i'll have more questions in the future!!

Hello Kyle,
I'm glad you were able to get it running. You are correct on the location of the VATS control module although it did change location slightly during the years, it was always in the same general area. The newer models have placed it on the side of the passenger airbag compartment on the side facing the driver. I have found and removed several from junked cars in the local boneyard. I usuually get ones that still have the key in the lock cylinder and take it along with the lock cylinder as well. I know the owner of the place pretty well and he usually only charges a few bucks for them if anything other than my time.
