gas gauge reads wrong all the time.
ok here is the deal bought this car a week ago and tryign to get all the bugs out of it any way the gas gauge never reads correct. when you have about half a tank it will go speratic and jump like crazy and then if you have a full tank it will read full but as you use gas it will drop but not the correct amount the lady i bought it from gave me an extra gauge but said that wasn;t the problem she also has had the wireing checked out from the gauge back and everything was fine yet they did not check the connections at the back end yet. could this be a short or is there a sending unit that could have gone bad?

The gas gauge not going down the right amount from full is normal. On mine 3/4 of a tank is more like half.
What do you the gauge is sporatic when it gets to half? Does it move around while your driving or as soon as you start it up?

yepp when i say sporatic i mean im driving down the road and its jumping around more then richard simons. i beleive its the sender due to the gauge has been replaced and still same problem also the wireing has been checked from the gauge to the rear altho it has'nt been checked at the actual sender.

also check the connection to the tank.. it could be corroded.. I thought I had a bad sending unit too.. man what a PITA to get at.. anyways I had tested mine and it was ok.. but there was a bad connection between there and the gauge..

If in doubt, you use the trip odometer.
I usually put $10 of gas in the tank when it's near empty and reset the trip odometer. With gas at $1.90 gallon for 93, I am getting about 75miles/$10.
I have a working sending unit in my garage for sale, but it is for a carbed car, so there is no provision for a fuel pump.
